Charles Horne, Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion
Charles Horne currently serves as Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at JPS Health Network. In this role, he works with system and community partners to advance practices and programs that foster diversity, equity & inclusion. He oversees the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which is comprised of Supplier Diversity, cultural competence/implicit bias education and training to improve employee engagement and patient health outcomes.
Prior to joining JPS, Charles was Director of Diversity, Inclusion & Health Equity at Parkland Health & Hospital System where he collaborated with senior leadership providing strategic direction to build programs and initiatives related to diversity, equity and inclusion and cultural competence/implicit bias education as aligned with Parkland’s strategic priorities and the Enhanced National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS). He also spearheaded Parkland’s seven Employee Recourse Groups (ERGs), with a concentration on developing each network into business-driven employee groups. He co-led Parkland’s Breast Cancer Equity Project to institute a standardized mechanism to achieve health equity by integrating public health with the traditional healthcare model; focus on reducing latent breast cancer diagnoses in two geographic areas with high African American and Hispanic populations in Dallas County.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences and Minored in Asian Studies at University of Washington – Tacoma Campus. He also holds a Master of Arts in Medical Anthropology from Creighton University. Charles is a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) - Diversity Training University International (DTUI), and obtained his Diversity and Inclusion Professional Certificate from Cornell University ILR.
Charles moved in 2015 with his wife Sandra and daughter Faith to live in the North Dallas area. He also has a son Daniel who serves in the Navy as an IT Tech. Charles’ hobbies include zip-lining, exercising, hiking and spending time with his daughter trying various foods from different cultures.
